10th Annual Allan Haan Manotick Soapbox Derby
and Picnic in the Park
Sunday, August 28, 2022
Sunday, August 28th was a beautiful, sunny day in Manotick and also the perfect day in which the Allan Haan Soapbox Derby and Picnic in the Park took place on. Over 40 participants took part racing down Beaverwood Drive in the derby, all to the cheers of the crowds that lined the street. Allan Haan was the main starting official for all of the races and even he took his turn racing alongside our MPP for a race. The Mayor and our MPP gave Allan certificates at the beginning of the event as thanks for his initiative and work in creating the event over 12 years ago and keeping it an annual event all this time.
During the lunch hour, participants, their families and all of the village were invited to attend the Picnic in the Park where they were treated to a BBQ and fun filled time at the park. The families were entertained by Manotick Brass and could partipate in a variety of fun filled events such as face painting, balloon sculptures and enjoy freezies, cotton candy and popcorn. The many smiles and laughter that could be seen were a testament to the great time that was being had by all.
This event was possible thanks to our generous sponsors
Summer is the time for kids and their parents to use their creativity by building a soapbox cart and racing it in the Allan Haan Manotick Soapbox Derby.
The Manotick Village and Community Association (MVCA) will hold the 10th annual Allan Haan Manotick Soapbox Derby on Sunday 28 August 2022 on Beaverwood Road next to Centennial Park at the Manotick Community Centre. Races run from 9:30 am to 4 pm depending on the number of carts.
This is a fun derby, perhaps not suitable for serious soapbox racing enthusiasts, but anyone 7 or older is welcome to participate. We ask participants for consent to use pictures taken for future Derby promotion.
Participants can build their own carts or we have some sponsored carts for those who cannot make one. Please read the rules and requirements carefully.
