Picnic-in-the-Park 2019 and

the 9th Annual Soapbox Derby

The 2019 Soap Box Derby and Picnic in the Park happened because more than 75 local residents came out to set up barricades and cones, manage registration, help to keep the carts moving from bottom of the hill to the top, serve food, make cotton candy and popcorn, organize multiple children’s activities and shuck corn. Our organizing committees start planning months in advance and a small group of about 10 people ensure that things go off without a hitch.

Without these volunteers, these events would not happen, so I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped with the organization and the delivery of these events.

Soapbox Derby Sponsors for 2019

Picnic-in-the-Park 2016 and the

Seventh Annual Soapbox Derby

While other parts of the city were pelted with rain and hail, Manotick enjoyed sunny skies and a massive turnout at both the Derby and the Picnic in the Park. Everyone enjoyed the races, the music, the crafts and face-painting, and the amazing free food provided by Westrow Foods and prepared and served by the Cumberland Lions. As always, Abby Hill's donation of delicious corn-n-the-cob was a huge hit too!
It was a truly community spirited team effort with hard working volunteers from Manotick Lions, Manotick Kiwanis and MVCA volunteers, new and old! Thanks to everyone who made it possible including our local sponsors. Enough money was raised for YOMA (Youth of Manotick) to fund several of their Friday drop-in nights which benefits all youth in our community.
The Derby was pleased to provide Super Kids carts once again, to enable youngsters with special needs to enjoy the sport of
soap-box racing. We were also delighted to introduce several Syrian refugee children to their first ever soap-box races!
