In addition to this, Brian Tansley donated a framed photograph which gives a unique view of the Mill, which was displayed at several of the events.

5 identical photos are available and three have sold for $200 each so that raised our total to $2,660.

There are still 2 available, with all proceeds going to the Raise the Roof fund.  If you are interested in purchasing one, please contact info@manotickvca.org for details.

Although it was disappointing to see the weather on Friday morning (freezing rain, turning to rain) a few centimetres of snow fall late in the afternoon.  There was a good crowd out for the bonfire, as the temperature was quite moderate for the last week of January.  The hot chocolate and timbits from  Rogers Cruiser and Tim Hortons was much appreciated by all in attendance.  Frosty, our mascot, made an appearance and had his picture taken with many excited children (as well as Mayor Watson and Councillor Moffatt).  After the opening ceremony, the activities moved inside for the Family Skate, sponsored by the Messenger.  At 8 PM Dr Kaboom had the children mesmerized with his magic show. Our sincere thanks to Paul's Pharmacy and the Fireplace Station for sponsoring this event.

There was an excellent turnout for the Kiwanis breakfast on Saturday morning.  The Manotick Cooperative Nursery School who ran the Children's Craft Time (with generous donations of materials from My Toy Shop and First Choice Haircutters) reported that there was a larger turnout than last year.  The Manotick Arts Camp provided face painters and the makeup to transform young faces into Butterflies, cats, dogs, fairies etc.

The sleigh ride is always a popular event when the weather cooperates, and this year they were busy for the full two hours from 10-Noon.  It was a mild day and everyone was happy to be outside enjoying a trip around Centennial Park.  Natural Food Market provided the organic hot chocolate to sip on while waiting in line.  Manotick Home Hardware and Manotick Travel and Cruise Centre sponsored the event.

Dino Reptiles, sponsored by the Lions Club, was a hit again this year.  There were definitely more children in attendance this year than last.  Although the crowd was a bit smaller this year at the Chili contest (113 judges ballots were turned in, compared to about 140 last year), there was a party atmosphere and the Legion smelled wonderful!  The Manotick Legion donated the room for this event, so all money raised could be given to the roof fund.  First place winner in the amateur category was Pierre Viau, with his curry chili and first place in the professional category was the Black Dog Restaurant for the second year.  Pierre's chili gained the most number of first place votes overall.

Manotick Arts Camp organized and supervised the "Bands that Raise the Roof" event.  It was popular with the young teens and attendance was definitely up this year from last.

The Trivia contest on Sunday afternoon saw about 55 people participate at the Mill Tavern Restaurant.  I'm not sure how many participants knew the original name of the Mill was the Long Island Flouring Mill, but we all know now!  The Mill Tavern, Simple Pleasures and the Hodge Podge, as well as a few community members, donated prizes for the raffle and in all we were able to raise $998 for the Raise the Roof fund from this event.
